'IT'S TUESDAY, I LOVE YOU PRESENTS'

"IT'S TUESDAY, I LOVE YOU JEWELRY"

UNDENIABLY ONE OF HOLLYWOOD LEGENDS, AS ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL AND SUCCESSFUL ACTRESSES, ELIZABETH TAYLOR HAD MANY ACCOMPLISHMENTS. HOW SHE MANAGED TO GET ALL THOSE HUSBANDS (8) AND ALL THAT MARVELOUS JEWELRY I WISH I KNEW.   BORN IN ENGLAND MAYBE SHE HAD A LITTLE ROYALTY IN HER FROM THE START.

WHAT I DO KNOW IS SHE HAD AN INCREDIBLE EYE FOR GORGEOUS JEWELRY!

DID YOU KNOW SHE GOT HER VERY FIRST ACTING JOB,  THE ROLE IN LASSIE BECAUSE SHE HAD A BRITISH ACCENT?!

I MYSELF IN LOVE WITH THE ACCENT AND THE OLD WORLD CHARM OF ENGLAND~ SO ELEGANT.

OVER THE YEARS HER JEWELRY COLLECTION GREW.  NOTED AS THE TWO MOST IMPORTANT MEN IN HER LIFE,  MIKE TODD AND RICHARD BURTON. MIKE, HUSBAND #3 & RICHARD HUSBAND #5 & #6

BOTH SHOWERED HER WITH GIFTS.

SHE COLLECTED LOTS OF JEWELRY. HER CHARMS WERE FABULOUS. WE'LL GET TO THAT ANOTHER TIME.

ONE OF MY FAVORITE STORIES ABOUT ELIZABETH AND RICHARD IS HOW ROMANTIC HE WAS WITH HER, HE'D FIND ANY EXCUSE TO GIVE HER A PIECE OF JEWELRY!

(JUST LIKE YOUR HUSBAND OR BOYFRIEND?)

FOR EXAMPLE, HE'D GIVE HER, 'IT'S TUESDAY, I LOVE YOU PRESENTS'  OR 'IT'S A BEAUTIFUL DAY PRESENTS'.    OVER THE YEARS SHE ACTUALLY CALLED THESE GIFTS 'IT'S TUESDAY I LOVE YOU JEWERLY'!

AS IT'S ALMOST VALENTINES DAY,  ANY DAY IS GOOD.

GIVE HER A GIFT FROM THE HEART.

TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN FOR YOUR VALENTINE

CALL ME, I'LL HELP YOU CREATE OR FIND A VERY SPECIAL HEARTFELT GIFT THAT WILL BE SOOO ROMANTIC.

A Giraffe and A Cow

I believe in “kismet”. It’s the moment you meet someone and there is an instant attraction.
The days turn into weeks, the weeks months, and you know how it goes- you can’t even remember how long you have known each other because you feel like you’ve been friends forever!  And so my friendship with Kelly began. We first met in the elevator in the building where we both lived in the east 50’s. She describes me as having a “giraffe like fit body,  an over styled hippie chick look with a tiny tiny baby bump. Natural, sweet and confident you could go out in public with your hair back in a ponytail,  throw on a t-shirt, ripped jeans and cowboy boots and plenty of bracelets and rings”.
I didn’t care that my boots were from Billy Martin circa 1988 or that I wore too much jewelry. I could make it all work! She will tell you that she was a “fat cow”.  She wasn’t!  She was 6 months pregnant ahead of me, she had been on bed rest and was spending her days watching talk shows, making her own necklaces in bed with beads and wire, inspired by Reinstein Ross and eating pints of ice cream (haagen daz, not the low cal Halo brand). In her words, she says “getting heavy seemed like the only easy thing for me at that time. I was so stressed, worried about my pregnancy”.  She had suffered a late miscarriage the year before and was on high alert.
Kelly will tell you that she wore her husbands' shirts and black maternity pants. “There was no wardrobe for me. I did buy 2 shirts in the maternity shop, one white, one blue. A go to uniform that no matter what your size one can always pull off”.
She had great style, no matter her size, that she owns!
All these years later, her baby girl and my two kids, almost 20 years past, we have remained close friends. We are like 2 peas in a pod, knowing what each other are thinking even before it comes out of our mouths!
Kelly is rarely without looking pulled together- she and her classic blazers, white, black or blue silk blouse, jeans, fancy heels or boots (or cool sneakers for the days she walks all over town), never frizzy locks of blonde paired classically with her gold and diamond jewels- classic and stylish. People are always asking her if she would shop for them,  chose their jewelry and basically  say “Tell me what to wear”   She knows her stuff as a jewelry designer and stylist. She travels from coast to coast, NY to LA and some times in Florida . While she has a free spirit she is also grounded and practical but above all, her love for life, family and friends is contagious!
I am a formally trained and licensed clinical therapist and nutritionist, and for many years my focus has been helping individuals achieve their optimal health. I don’t believe in a “one size fits all” nutrition plan. Instead, I work with clients one-on-one, supporting them as they make positive changes based on lifestyle and food preferences. I use a personalized, holistic approach that is unique to each client. I am a native New Yorker, a true city girl but in my next life I will be a cowgirl on a ranch in the mountains where I can wear my cowboy boots and no one thinks twice! While I do exercise often, on a rare occasion I will indulge in a really good piece of chocolate cake!
I believe in nutrition, wellness and balance.
Together, Kelly & I are offering our clients a 3, 5 or 6 week package deal!
We will start by shopping with you in your own wardrobe & home.
What to wear (Kelly)
What to eat (Rachel).
With you we will go through your closets, jewelry, your pantry and fridge and suggest repurposing some of it, edits & trashing others.  A purge with purpose!

It's That Time of Year Again

It’s That Time Of Year Again!

A new season, I’m reflecting on my style. What’s it going to be?  In fashion, jewelry & music. What we’ll be listening to & wearing as Spring turns to Summer soon enough.

I recently had the pleasure and coolest experience styling a band for an album cover. Working with  Photographer Vincent Dale from Sarasota Florida, shooting in the Everglades, one of natures treasures. I did feel like Jane in the Jungle as little did I know the hithering sounds beneath my vintage suede Prada boots were snakes!! Good thing my dog Cookie Jar who  with me on location is small enough to be held~ in the tall grasses and wild nature, who knows what else was lurking there!!

Tamboka’s lead singer is Nay, together they are a world music gypsy style band. Definitely on my “get ready & go” playlist for spring 2017. Their songs on the newly relaeased album TAMBOKA, 2 B Free & Evol replay in my head, I am addicted to their rhythm.

Nay & I played dress up in NYC then again in Miami, we came up with a look that I love, she’s a beautiful young super talented girl with a scarred past.  It resonates in her music, as a violin player & singer. I love gold wire chokers with different small attached diamond pieces to layer, add a long cool link chain & insta cool. I'm avoiding the huge sleeve shirts that make me look like a fat bird but I am loving the new cut hem on jeans. Who says we need to be "in" to be cool? Sometimes I just like to listen to the music that makes me feel, then I look and feel even better.

On Itunes or spotify, take a peek & let’s …

“Get ready & GO" Playlist

1- 2 B Free TAMBOKA

2- Evol TAMBOKA

3- Contro Vento  Malika Ayane

4- Il Giardino Dei Salici Malika Ayane

5- Take the Long Way Home Supertramp

6- Days Like This Van Morrison

7- Going Out of My Head Sergio Mendes

8- Here Comes The Sun Nina Simone

9- I Am Changing DREAMGIRLS soundtrack

10- Moda Bo Lura & Cesare Evora

Jewelry is the best accessory of 2016-2017

I just did an aerobic shop with my BF in town from Cleveland. We hit all her favorite stores within 24 hours. Barneys, Bergdorfs, up and down Madison Ave. Even savvy shoppers like us came away with some sticker shock. The shoe sales racks were bargains at $400.  Reductions from $1800, really shoes are that expensive, sandals no less, and yes oh so pretty, most uncomfortable too.

My ageing, walking, dancing feet hurt. My closets are filled with pretty shoes I can no longer wear for longer than walking to a car distance~ out my front door, not down the block.

I always loved and related to SJP in Sex and the City, my affair with pretty shoes goes way back. These days the pain and the prices lead me to believe we are all much better off accessorizing more with jewelry! Let's reel this obsession in, ask your mother or grandmother for some old gold charms. Let's create a sentimental choker or bracelet that will be your conversation piece at the bar or dinner table out with friends. I'm sorry, I do love leather but I would rather own gold. How about you? Call me if you would like a private appointment or skype call and we'll create your Fall best accessory too.

Let's Smile, Emoji Charms!

Every few years there's a real trend in charms. I have been in love with charms and charming people for that matter my whole life.

Years ago I mad some smiley face charms with diamond eyes to wear with my small photo tag charms. They were a hit! Fast forward to icons, emojicons, bitmojis, & aps we don't even know about yet, there is something new every minute. Most of which is technology.

Yet not much can make you smile without seeing someone elses smile. Bringing a smile, smirk or wink to your face makes us human. Yeah, we live in a world of dogma, snapchat, facebook, instagram, skype, text, yada yada but if you want to talk to me give me or call or better yet, let's meet face to face and just smile.

Check out the big emoji charms at kellygerber.com silver $150 gold $500

and if all else fails, try to smile ;)

Loving London

There's nothing better than a quick weekend away to recharge your spirits. We all need new inspirition, something to empower us, bring us to that next level of whatever it is. In my case creativity.  I first came to London when I was 16 with my parents and sister.

I remember hearing that authetic British accent and quite honestly could not get it out of my head. Later on, I proclaimed a British accent when out and about meeting "boys", my friends would laugh, but it got to the point I was so bloody good at it I thought

I would just be a little British for awhile. Well, it lasted in and out for about 2 years. I am truly in love with that accent. On a recent visit for a friends event I fell in love again, not merely with being British, I will always love that, but also the beauty of this

great city, hectic but calm, controlled and civilized and incredibly diversified. I started to feel some new inspiration for photographs,  gold charms and big diamond earrings, lots of bangles and classic jewel tone stones. I can't wait to see what this holiday season will bring, but I do know I will

be fantastically British whenever I can be!

Not So Empty Nest

                     NOT SO EMPTY NESTER

From the moment I set eyes on my daughter she has brought nothing but joy. Joy with a side salad of anxiety.

As a single mom from the time she was 10 we were faced with many challenges. We got thru them all together and we still do.  We always felt like NYC was a safety net, protected and surrounded by people who knew us everywhere we went.  I often feel as if my late husband Jordy  set this all up.

So time flies and off she goes to college. Presented am I as millions of parents each year with the "Empty Nest"

I keep Sophie close to me always, wearing my photo tag charm necklace, made of 14kt yellow gold on a long link chain, a photo tag of my daughter when she was a young curly haired little blonde girl and one of her more recent as a natural blonde beauty, combined with a gold diamond 4 leaf clover charm, a diamond oval peace charm, a yellow gold smiley face, a diamond initial charm, my personal customized necklace, our story, our lives held close to my heart.

I am meeting so many talented people, catching new fashion, new trends, reconnecting with old friends and opening up my business to young mothers as Ambassadors to represent Kelly Gerber Jewelry to tell their personal story on their own necklaces.

I'm always looking and waiting for inspiration, only to find there is a glut on everything these days, and at high prices too.

What is unique and extraordinary is what is yours, your heritage, your family, heirlooms, your own personal story.

For some clients I am helping them create new pieces for others, recreating jewels, tweaking their look with a new style.

One of my favorite things is seeing the ethereal baby faces in photographs which lift my spirit.  I miss my daughter yet I am filled with beautiful memories of her ethereal baby face and the new ones to follow as she has become a woman.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                My nest is empty but life is full.

SPRING & STYLE IN THE CITY

This year spring in the city brings me collaborative projects with old friends. It's amazing when you connect with people and create a team, when things flow and it's FUN!

This no longer feels like work, more like a play date.

So just that, the other day my talented & energetic friend Lisa Jacobs and her amazing "Imagine it Done" team & I had a play date with a beautiful young woman named Caroline Leventhal, a wellness coach  & mom of an adorable 18 month old boy.

Lisa and her team had already been to Caroline's apartment, organized, edited and had it all in place.

One of the last steps was having me join them to repurpose some things in her jewelry box, now that the closet was styled to an envious display!

Not over the top just so right, like Caroline herself.  With a flair for natural humor we had Caroline open up her treasures. She had some really fabulous pieces from her mom & grandma. First thought was WOW her mom has fantastic taste if these are the hand me downs I wonder what her mom has. Caroline first showed me 2 drawers that she said, "this I never wear" ahhh a challenge, but not really as there was the treasure. Memories, gifts from her youth & hand me down pieces that I was quite honestly, effortlessly able to transform to a modern styled look. I added one of my great long chains, reworked some pearls to chokers  & presto, she's got new jewelry with sentimental meaning.

So spring into action and create your look. Like everything else, eating right, going to the gym, organizing your home, it takes effort and dedication then it's just natural. An easy styled wardrobe, comfortable in your own skin, good jewelry,  you will be ready for your own runway!

Call Lisa at Imagine it Done for a consultation and organize your stuff. Call me when your done:)

Thanks~Gaming

Thanksgiving started off smoothly, except the temperatures were insane and I was freezing but the conversations and games were heating up. We were up in Bedford at my sisters, who cooked the entire meal with her best friend of 50 years~ they even toasted to their friendship,  it was very sweet. I am no longer on food assignment, I used to cook Thanksgiving every year out at the beach but that is in the past. Now, I just bring the wine and the crack… Crack Pie that is from Momofuku Milk Bar (OMG-so good but oh so fattening). After dessert everyone plopped on the couch with nothing other than FOOTBALL on TV.  There are 4 dogs running around, 3 young ladies, 4 women, my brother-in-law and 5 boys (in college and out of college). The boys usually out number the girls but not this year so I was hoping the football would be turned off but no. This bunch is smart,  all the kids go/went to great colleges and same with the adults. When the idea of a game came around that wasn’t a “pregame” or football game outside due to the 17 degree weather, the ladies and I were excited! The game is called “Schnapps”- well my first thought was if this is any resemblance to beer pong, I’m out. And I'm not the NY Times crossword puzzle or Jeopardy pro here. I might be in trouble, well it's a game.  We were all full, stuffed on red wine and amazing food, 2 turkeys, stuffing, brussel sprouts with pancetta, yummy orange cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes with marshmallows (just how my mom makes it), fresh homemade sourdough bread and more. The dessert was the kicker, all the pies, pumpkin bread, whipped cream, cookies, oh boy was I full, but a very delicious meal.

We started  playing this game, and I’m a little competitive at games:)  This game resembles “Heads up” but I’m just going to call it “Who am I?” The person next to you writes a persons name or a character on a sticky note (post it) and places it on your forehead. My daughter was next to me, I put Martha Stewart on her forehead,  she put a marked post it on mine. We go around the room and these are the people everyone has: Anthony Bourdain, Van Morrison, Jim Carrey, Big Pappi, Richard Nixon, Rachel Maddow, Dumbledore, Robert Mueller, Martha Stewart, Michael B. Jordan, Tommy Pickles (from the Rugrats), Isaac Newton and mine. The idea of the game is that you can only ask yes or no questions and once you have 3 no’s, it's the next person’s turn. My niece Jessie starts (she is 26), “Am I dead?  No. Am I famous? Yes. Am I a politician? No. Am I over 50?  Yes. Am I an actor? No.  Now I am up, as soon as my sticky was put on my head my sister started to giggle a little. I start asking the questions:  Am I alive? Yes. Am I famous?  Yes. Am I on TV? Yes.  Am I funny? Yes …kind of , whatever that means! Do I like me? Yes. Do I know me? Yes (not personally)  Am I over 50? Yes. Am I on a current TV show? No. Ok that's 3 no’s, so it's the next person’s turn and onto round 2. My youngest nephew is totally stuck on Jim Carrey, asking so many questions, it’s getting brutal now. My brother-in-law and our friend already guessed who they were and were out.  So back to me here I go again.  I know I’m famous, I’m alive, over 50, on TV and movies and I like me.  I thought okay good at least my daughter didn't give me a random cartoon character or a politician! Am I blonde? Yes. Sort of. Was I in Friends? No. Was I in Charlie’s Angels? No. Am I Carrie Bradshaw? YES! I’m Sarah Jessica Parker!

In style, writing, and waiting for “Big,” and let’s not forget collecting shoes- this is me!  Not that I can really wear them anymore, high heel pointy toes, deep inclines, but they are pretty to look at and some have a beautiful memory from when I was able to actually walk in them.

So regardless of who you are, in a game or in real life, I want to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving, as we move into the holiday season,  there is so much to be grateful for.  Especially a comfortable pair of walking shoes.

With love & gratitude,

Kelly
p.s. Jessie was Robert Mueller:)

The Origination of The Cocktail Ring

The Origination of The Cocktail Ring

I recently read in a jewelry publication that there is an authentic history to the "cocktail ring." Originally it was a symbol of rebellion during prohibition. I'm thinking does that mean women weren't able to wear rings if they weren't married?  So I read on...this is what I learned.

Flashy flapper dancers in the 1920's in the underground scene wore oversized rings to draw attention to the fact that they were sipping illicit alcoholic beverages. It was a way that women showed their independence, they were worn on the right hand to show it was not a wedding band and to add to that ~to insinuate the woman had most likely bought the ring with her own money! Well these women certainly started an everlasting trend.  Regardless of who buys it, cocktail rings are fun, usually big and make a statement. Married or single they are a stylish statement piece to add to your jewelry collection. Style is not what you buy, it's what you have.

Cheers to the Cocktail Ring!
